October has arrived with the Independence cry of Carlos Manuel de Cespedes in La Demajagua and with the insuperable valour of Che Guevara in front of his killers in the school of La Higuera. Nothing can erase the heroic example of these men.
October has arrived and numerous letters are coming from the most distant places of the world. Many new friends have written to us and it is so much encouraging.
And October has arrived with the awaited response of the Government to our appeal. Their arguments cannot be other than the ones they used during the trial; false and manipulated arguments. We have to reply and time presses us...
This month is my birthday (and the same day, October 16, is the birthday of my dear son Gabriel, he is now 11 and I..better not say how old I am now) and it has provoked the high number of messages that I have been receiving and for sure it will grow in the next days.
I am sure you will understand me, and this letter will be simple and short, but it contains an admiration for you deep as an ocean, alove for you ardent as the sun and a gratitude for you infinite as the sky. And I wish to make yours these verses which in my modest English I have translated.
WE WILL PREVAIL!
A reason has ben sowed for the long itinerary.
Nothing could make the rage and the solitary confinement.
Truths already resound..Five winds of the winter
have passed together with the crude blows of the worse hell.
Clear will be the tomorrow
there where the sun warms up a sovereign earth.
New path will come
with an eternal Spring
of genuine destinies and reachable chimera
of wide strength. Time runs unstopped, usefully,
and freedom comes, more than certain, convincing.
A solidarity has been born as a flower,
white and fresh, it is a beauty of the world scarcely flowery
and basic Spring.
Reason of the long path, highest Spring,
truths of the struggle
in the face of so much hypocrisy
will bring a new day,
will pull us out of these entrails!
