Extract from a letter received by Geoff Bottoms, Chair of the CSC Miami Five Campaign Group, from Fernando Gonzalez (Ruben Campa) in FCI Oxford, Wisconsin USA

My mail has been piling up while I spent most of my time reading and analysing the government's response to our appeal briefs in order to craft a long letter to my attorney in which I offered him my opinions on the document and my suggestions for our next reply.

This next document by the attorneys for the defence will be a short one. The Court of Appeals severely limits the amount of words in the paper. We are trying to make it as strong a document as possible.

I read your review of Oliver Stone's "Fidel" for the Morning Star and made copies of it to send to some of the friends who write to us. You probably know that HBO, the TV station that produced the documentary, made Oliver Stone go back to Cuba and spend another 30 hours with Fidel just to ask him about the arrests of the alleged "dissidents".

I am very appreciative of the efforts in England on our behalf. I only wish I could respond to each and every one of the friends who write to us. However it is humanly impossible for me to do so and I ask you to please let all our friends know that I am grateful to them for their support and solidarity.

On the legal front everything will be in the hands of 3 judges in Atlanta after November 17. As you know a ruling from the judges might not come any time soon. Also, I do not honestly expect anything spectacular from them although if there is justice some important issues should come our way.

In the meantime we will keep fighting. Solidarity will keep growing and strengthening and those will be the decisive factors. Venceremos!
